Workshops

Bespoke and off the shelf

Museums, galleries, festivals, charities and brands have invited the Craftivist Collective to create bespoke and off-the-shelf workshops and events for and with them because our gentle craftivism can be an effective bridge to reach diverse audiences in popular venues and apolitical spaces and I can make our craftivism content relevant to there content and mission. I have said no to working with extremely unethical organisations especially where they want to use our events as a form of ‘good-washing’, ‘green-washing’ or ‘activism-washing’.

I’ve delivered full day and half day training sessions as well as bespoke drop-in workshops and timed workshops for charities, brands, museums and galleries from as little as 8 staff around one table to a public event at the beautiful Dartington Tall for a sold out audience of 80 people around multiple tables with Craftivist facilitators for each table group. I worked with Secret Cinema to create a bespoke activity room for 6 weeks of sold out shows as part of their Shawshank Redemption series where I incorporated the powerful work of Fine Cell Works (with their permission of course) into the immersive experience for participants. I have created many packages for museums and galleries carefully connected to themes in their temporary or permanent collections to reach new and existing audiences. For example:

  • Following several one-off projects with the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), I was asked to lead a year-long series of craftivism events that linked to V&A exhibitions. I conceptualised, project managed and delivered these 4 - 5 hours workshops, engaging over 500 participants, some of whom stayed for hours and attended subsequent events.

  • I was hired by the British Museum to create a series of public drop-in craftivism workshops over a number of months as part of the I, Object exhibition curated by Ian Hislop. I had to incorporate themes of the exhibition that worked best. Engaging over a 1000 participants from around the world with seven Craftivists helping at each event around our large tables in the grand hall (with the largest footfall in the museum)

Clients and collaborators also include Anya Hindmarch, Birdsong London, Maker Faire (Bay Area, California), Helsinki Design Week (Finland), Tate, Hayward, Tatty Devine, Barbican, Craft Council Design Museum Danmark (Copenhagen), The Climate Coalition, Art Division (LA), Parsons New School (NYC), National Federation of Women’s Institute, Craft Scotland, Bauhaus University (Weimar), Greenpeace, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, Chanel, Secret Cinema, The Climate Coalition, Craft Scotland, UNICEF and Save the Children amongst others.
